The making of FOREVER WONDER

FOREVER WONDER is the latest work completed at Tamara’s Fine Art Studio.  It is also the featured painting this month.  This abstract piece measures 36x36x2 inches, and is on a gallery wrapped canvas.  It has more than 20 layers of fantastic colors and character.  I knew from the beginning that this was going to be a fun and exciting challenge. A piece this size requires a bit more planning.  Today, I would like to take you through my process for creating FOREVER WONDER.

When starting any project I begin with sketching small studies.

These studies allow me to work out colors, shapes and textures. I initially planned to do a series of browns, oranges, terracottas, and a touch of sky blue.  This would have made a beautiful composition.  I did some first layer studies and quickly determined that I wanted to go a different direction.

After many years of painting I have learned that “starting” is part of finishing.  If I wait for inspiration, I may be waiting a long time so I just have to start and see where the work takes me.   After several studies and much frustration, I decided to stop and observe.

I compiled different sections of the studies and came up with a fantastic composition.  One that has a great amount of interest and mystique.  Such a wonderful piece.  The amount of texture, layers, gradation of color, makes this a beautiful work of art.  As the viewer gazes and interprets the different areas of this piece they have no choice but to FOREVER WONDER.

Until next time.
