5 Ways to Make Time to Create

In my last blog post we discussed how to find a space to create.  As we searched our personal space we found a special spot and made it our “Studio”.  Now that we have that perfect Studio we need to find time to use it.

5 ways to Make Time to Create

1. Wake up 1 hour early

Waking up an hour earlier than usual is a fantastic time to create.  For this to be effective, you must plan ahead.  The night before you should straighten up your studio and prepare all of the supplies you will need.  This includes brushes and pencils, buckets of water, and the surfaces you plan use.

2.  Limit screen time (set your alarm)

Many of us set our alarm to wake up in the morning.  Set another alarm to remind you that it is time to create.   Find the time of day where you have more than one hour of screen time and use the remainder of that time to create.  The alarm will help you to remember that it is time to create.

3.  Just say “No”

A part of making time to create is getting comfortable with saying “No” or “No thank you” or “Not this time” or “I’m sorry, but I will not be able to make it” or “I’m sorry but I have already made plans”. All of these responses are different ways to say “No”.

4.  Schedule it

Just like we schedule a doctors appointment, we should schedule our creative time.  Put it on your calendar and make all of your plans around that time so there will not be a conflict.  This way when you say “No” to an invitation, you will actually have something scheduled.

5.   Create with others (if necessary)

There are times when it will be impossible for you to be in your Studio alone.  At these times you can invite others to create with you.  Find a way they can help you with your project or have them do something on their own.  This situation will not be suitable on a consistent basis, but sometimes it may be necessary.

Until next time.
