Emerald Exploration Part 2

As I continue to work on my current series entitled “Emerald Exploration”, I am surprised by the magnificent depth of the color Emerald.  The emerald color I am using in this series is a custom color that I created and therefore I needed to learn more about its range.  How many variations could be  made by adding one or two colors?  This information is very important in providing me with an enormous variety of new emerald shades to choose from when I begin creating another piece in this series.

My first experiment was creating lighter shades of my emerald color.  By doing this, I was able to create softer pastel-like colors.  The process of making the color lighter brought out many different characteristics.  I lightened it so much at one point that it appeared the color had  changed completely.

All of these subtle nuances would have been missed if the range of this color were not tested.

The piece below, entitled “EMERALD MIST”, gives you a hint of some lighter shades of Emerald.  Notice how the color changes at different times throughout the piece.  Each layer provides a look into many subtle color variations.

Until next time.
